Maria Giovanna Pastore Carbone
Dr. Maria Giovanna Pastore Carbone is Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering of the University of the Peloponnese (Patras, Greece). She received her university degree in Materials Engineering and her PhD degree in Materials and Structure Engineering from the Dept. of Chemical, Materials and Production Engineering, University of Napoli Federico II (Italy). She has served as Postdoc Researcher at the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH/ICEHT) and at the Dept. of Chemical Engineering of the University of Patras from 2015 to 2024. Her research follows a multi-scale approach towards the design, the production and the characterization of advanced materials with specific functional and structural properties. She has co-authored 35 scientific papers on international journals (H-index 18), 3 book chapters, 6 patents and has actively participated in more than 40 international conferences. Her current research is focused on the integration of graphene and related materials for the development of multi-functional systems, such as lightweight composites for EMI shielding applications and coatings for protection against UV-vis radiation and permeation of gases/vapours, and sustainable composites enhanced with graphene and other 2DM. By incorporating concepts of materials science, physics, chemistry and nanotechnology, her research targets several applications that will impact our society in the future such as high-performance nanocomposites, sustainable composites, preservation of cultural heritage, sensitive sensors and actuators.
