Stefanos Matsalis

Dr. Stefanos Matsalis is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Patras and a member of the Composites & Nanostructured Materials Laboratory. He earned his Diploma in Chemical Engineering in 2020 and completed his PhD in the same department in 2025, with a thesis focused on “Development and chemical functionalization of two-dimensional materials for humidity and gas sensing applications”. His expertise includes the synthesis and modification of 2D materials, the fabrication of nanocomposites, and their integration as sensors, while he has actively contributed to several research projects.

Aggeliki Karavioti

Dr. Aggeliki Karavioti currently holds the position of Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (FORTH/ICE-HT), where she is also a member of the Composites & Nanostructured Materials Laboratory (CNM) since 2025. She completed her undergraduate studies in Materials Science at the University of Patras, earning a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in 2014. Subsequently, she pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Chemical Engineering from the same institution, which she completed in 2017, building on a solid foundation of interdisciplinary knowledge in both materials’ science and chemical engineering. Dr. Karavioti’s doctoral research, undertaken at the University of Patras/Physics Department and completed at the beginning of 2022, was focused on the “Synthesis and Characterization of Perovskite Solar Cells under Ambient Conditions,” where she investigated the fabrication, stability, and performance of perovskite-based photovoltaic devices outside of controlled laboratory conditions. In addition to her doctoral research, she has co-authored 10 peer-reviewed scientific articles published in leading international journals, and she has actively participated in more than five scientific conferences. Her current research interests focus on the exploration and application of graphene-based materials from green synthesis approaches on the protection of cultural heritage items.

George Gorgolis

Dr. George Gorgolis is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Patras and the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences of the Foundation for Technology and Research (ICEHT/FORTH). He received his B.S. from the Department of Materials Science of the University of Patras in 2009. In 2012 he obtained his M.S. from the same department. In 2015 he received his Ph.D. from the Department of Environmental Engineering of the University of Patras. He has significant expertise in the synthesis and characterisation of graphene and other two-dimensional materials, and the modification of their properties. His current research interests include the design, synthesis and characterisation of advanced materials, the study of their functional properties (such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, etc.) and their application in innovative fields, including, among others, the development of innovative dyes, sorbents of environmental pollutants, the development of protective coatings from UV-vis radiation, etc. The scientific results obtained during his studies led to the publication of 17 peer-reviewed articles in many international scientific journals (h-index 9, Citations 816, from Google Scholar), 2 national and 1 international patent, as well as his active participation in more than 30 national and international conferences.
